“…one hell of a thriller.” Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
“…unsatisfactory.” Anthony Lane, The New Yorker
Not only does its lead character, Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller (Damon), meander into dangerous territory so does the film itself. Set during the U.S.-led occupation of Baghdad in 2003, Green Zone isn’t a documentary but it sure borrows from real-life situations and makes many speculations that are sure to rile up both sides of the political spectrum. Damon, however, gives a strong performance – as an actor and an action star – as his character searches for both weapons of mass destruction and the truth. The whole cast is indeed strong, but the film overall is too political, with too obvious of an agenda. The reason to see it, however, is for its fast-paced and exhilarating action.
