That’s actually “Slofi.” The hyphen makes a world of difference here. And while I can’t tell you much about Slo-Fi, doesn’t knowing the band probably doesn’t play Scottish techno make you suddenly want to see them? (1001 E. Wednesday, Aug. 3: Evan Christian at The Jazz Estate, 10 p.m.

As far as these music round up posts go, skilled local jazz man Evan Christian is to Wednesdays as Sigmund Snopek is for Tuesdays. But just because the resident Estate guitarist is the default option when there’s dick else written on the mid-week calendar doesn’t mean Christian isn’t worth consideration. The local Jazz staple will be playing alongside Ben Folds, The Fray, Michelle Branch and others at Rock The Green, the city’s first near-zero waste music festival, September 18. (2423 N. MUSIC NOTES SHOW OF THE WEEK

Thursday, Aug. 4: M.C. Hammer, Tone Loc and Young MC at Potawatomi Bingo Casino Main Stage at Wisconsin State Fair Grounds, 7:30 p.m. ($15-35)

Wisconsin State Fair festivities kick off with perhaps its most famous act. Popular early ’90s rapper M.C. Hammer—who took off his genie pants in favor of a preacher’s outfit after he went broke—gives onlookers something to watch while their bodies struggle to digest creampuffs, deep fried butter and chocolate covered bacon. Please, Hammer, don’t hurt ’em! Ahhh, who am I kidding? He’s 49! (640 South 64th Street in West Allis, WiStateFair.com)

Also: American Idol Live at Bradley Center, 7 p.m. ($45-65) – (1001 N. Fourth St., BradleyCenter.com)

Friday, Aug. 5: Flogging Molly at The Rave, 8 p.m. ($27)

L.A.’s Flogging Molly seems to have the seven-piece Irish-influenced punk rock market cornered. The band, which is best known as “No, not Dropkick Murphy’s,” kicks off Milwaukee Irish Fest two weeks early with its unique brand of Celtic punk on the heels of its latest effort, 2011’s Speed of Darkness. (2401 W. Wisconsin Ave., TheRave.com)

Also: Eels at Turner Hall, 7 p.m. ($25) – (1032 N. Fourth St., PabstTheater.org)

And: Eric Johnson at Pabst Theater, 7:30 p.m. ($29.50) – (2401 W. Wisconsin Ave., TheRave.com)

Saturday, Aug. 6: Summer Slaughter 2011 at The Rave, 5 p.m. ($21.50)

With a 10-band bill that includes bands with names like The Black Dahlia Murder, Six Feet Under, Fleshgod Apocalypse, As Blood Runs Black and Dying Fetus, this show poses an excellent opportunity for an interesting and potentially life-scarring night out with the family. (2401 W. Wisconsin Ave., TheRave.com)

Also: Freight, Northless and Absolutely at Cactus Club, 10 p.m. – (2496 S. Wentworth Ave., CactusClubMilwaukee.com)
