3 New Things Coming to Milwaukee in August

The opening of a game bar, a new EP and a maritime novel come to Milwaukee this month.

The Familiar Place

2856 N. OAKLAND AVE. 

All kinds of games are meant to be played at this new bar on the Upper East Side. Choose from tabletop games, cards, retro consoles and more, while enjoying themed cocktails. It’s planned to open this month.

Float Away

A sizzling blend of funk grooves and blues-rock riffs has been propelling five-piece band Torcado. They’re moving fast – just over a year after their first EP, their second release is out now. 

Along Lake Michigan 

There’s no shortage of shipwrecks in mighty Lake Michigan. Wisconsin author Michael Schumacher breaks down those maritime misfortunes and tells human stories of bravery and tragedy. The book is out Aug. 26.
