3 Coffee Shops Where You Can Catch a Concert

Looking for live music and lattes all in one go? Head over to one of these coffee shop concert venues.

Although Milwaukee has a lot of fantastic big-time music venues, there are also smaller, cozy and intimate spaces to enjoy live music – venues that also can be paired with a cup of coffee. Yes, you may have enjoyed performances at the Rave, American Family Field, the Riverside Theater or Summerfest – but, if you have not made a stop at one of the city’s coffee shops to experience the coalition of brews and tunes, you should add it to your calendar.

1. The Back Room @ Colectivo

The Colectivo on Prospect boasts “The Back Room” – a hot spot for music in the city. Partnered with the Pabst Theatre Group, “The Back Room” hosts musicians of all kinds, including jazz, indie and pop performers. The acts range from small-scale national artists to local and Milwaukee-native musicians. The environment could not be more suitable – scattered with string lights, accented by hanging plants and filled with the scent of freshly brewed coffee and other beverages all while music surrounds the stage. Some of the upcoming acts include The Spill Canvas (Aug. 14), Daniel Thrasher (Aug. 16), Charlie Martin (Aug. 18), Social Cig (Aug. 20) and Futurebirds (Aug. 25).

2. The Coffee House

The Coffee House hosts live music, poetry readings and community gatherings. During September through May of each year, they host performances, and the shop is open for coffee, food and fun year round. There are a few noteworthy upcoming gigs. On Sept. 10, folks can gather at The Coffee House Friends Gathering and Open Jam. Anyone is invited to bring their own instrument, read their poetry or just come along to listen and learn. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. Also, on Sept. 17, Milwaukee-based performer John Justus – otherwise known as Hallowtribe – will take the stage. That same night, Jorge Valentine, an indie rocker who delivers an emotion-packed performance, will perform as well.
