Based on the 1978 children’s book by Judi and Ron Barrett, this 3-D, animated tale is about Flint Lockwood (Hader), an imaginative scientist who invents a machine that turns water into food. Soon the town of Chewandswallow is inundated with pancakes and cheeseburgers falling from the sky instead of rain or snow. Despite the heavy emphasis on food, this charming, funny film cleverly boasts messages on the adverse effects of obesity and junk food. If kids miss that, they’ll still be amused by the eye-popping animation and the fast-paced action. Cloudy is a bit long for adults, but winning performances from Mr. T, Caan and Neil Patrick Harris offer plenty to fill up on.
