Nostalgia has defined the 5 O’Clock Club since it opened, as just a bar (under the name Coerper’s 5 O’Clock Club), in 1945. The ownership has changed but part of the reason the popularity of this joint hasn’t waned is it’s kept the trademarks intact: Diners belly up to the bar, where they order a drink and place their dinner order.

A Friday Fish Fry, a Monday and Tuesday custom Surf and Turf option and we’re there. Sip on a “tutti-frutti” in their screened-in patio during summer while listening to live music and sampling some delicious menu options including Louie’s five-star signature filet.

A private entrance to this intimate Potawatomi Casino & Hotel restaurant lets you avoid the casino crowds. Dine on house-made charcuterie, several Black Angus steaks, as well as specialty cuts of kangaroo and Kobe beef. Venison and fresh fish round out the menu.

8612 Watertown Plank Rd. Wauwatosa WI

A frequent meeting place for physicians at nearby Froedtert Medical Center, Eddie??s is the place for that Prime Kobe tomahawk rib-eye you??ve always wanted to try. A solid choice for a filet, NY strip or (switching to the fresh catches) ahi tuna and sea scallops.

3736 W. Mitchell St. Milwaukee WI

The low-key supper club, tucked into a residential South Side neighborhood, indulges Milwaukeeans?? love of large portions. Loosen your belt and dig into the saloon steak a la Portobello, spicy purgatory shrimp or sea scallops with saffron risotto. A martini is obligatory.

425 E. Mason St. Milwaukee WI

The best seat in the house is at the kitchen counter, where you can watch your crab cakes, chopped salad and NY strip with Delmonico potatoes being prepared. The leather booths offer a little more privacy, and the bar, live entertainment and a nifty bar menu. Other standouts: fried surf clams and herb crumb-crusted halibut.
