The former Coquette Cafe digs have been transformed by the owners (who also operate the Third Ward’s DanDan). They’ve added a ’70s rock ‘n roll vibe and an untraditional French menu. That includes French onion soup, foie gras torchon, steak frites, duck a l’orange and cassoulet.

Bartolotta-owned and set in historic Lake Park Pavilion, LPB has the decorative elements of a fancy French farmhouse (copper, tasseled lamp shades). It??s as comfortable to eat at the bar as it is at a table in the warmly lit dining room facing Lake Michigan. Wherever you??re seated, try the steak tartare; salad topped with a fried, soft-boiled egg;? Dover sole; and mousse au chocolat.
A bustling bistro in a restored 100-year-old bank building. Breakfast is simple counter-service fare like quiche and croissant sandwiches. Solve your lunch dilemma with a croque-madame. Come dinner, hit up the bouillabaisse, grilled lamb or steak au poivre. Finish with pastries ?? lots of them (lemon tart, Paris-brest, chocolate raspberry dome, et al).

If you’re looking for something that’s a little bit higher up on the epicurean scale, this one’s for you. Maple-glazed, seared and thick-sliced duck breast is the bomb on its own. Layer it inside a warm, sturdy flour tortilla with queso, lettuce and the delicious chipotle salsa and the stars really align. One pro tip: Order the pureed black beans and scoop them into your taco! Head to Poco Loco Cantina in Brown Deer for this masterpiece.
Scrambled eggs, potatoes and salami; the “super” HP adds vegetables and cheese. Corned beef hash rarely disappoints. Nor does my Jewish deli fallback – a bagel topped with lox, cream cheese and red onion.
