2136 N. 21st St, Milwaukee, WI 53205

Alice’s Garden gardeners, community partners, and volunteers will gather at the garden, 2136 N 21st St, Milwaukee, WI, at 10 am on Saturday, September 15 to build AquaBlox that will stack to form a 20,000 gallon underground cistern. An opening ceremony will be held at 10:30 am.

The cistern is part of the Rainwater Harvesting System currently under construction at the garden that will divert stormwater runoff from the adjacent Milwaukee Public Schools’ (Brown Street Academy) asphalt schoolyard into a bioswale and then into the cistern where gardeners can use a new solar-powered pump and filtration system to irrigate their crops. The project will successfully reduce stormwater runoff, effectively reducing basement backups and combined sewer overflows which impair the health of the Lindsay Heights neighborhood, while also reducing the annual watering costs and demonstrating sustainability practices.

This project would not be possible without the generous funding from many individuals and organizations including the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, Fund for Lake Michigan, and Joseph and Vera Zilber Charitable Foundation, Inc.
