Too Much Swag

Urban Dictionary defines “Swag” as follows: “The way in which you carry yourself.” Moreso, swag is made up of your overall confidence, style and demeanor. Next time you’re in front of the mirror having a fabulous hair day, tell yourself, “I’ve got TMS for you to handle!” Pop a super awesome dance move, and start your great day! However, if you need a little more flair… I recently came across a line of locally designed sunglasses called OMGfashion Shades, “The Shades that make you say oh my gosh.” They aren’t joking. I’ve never seen something like this before. Not only…

Va-Va-VOOM

How many of us are on a never-ending search for that perfect, wear-all-the-time purse, little black dress, lipstick, stilettos, boyfriend, earrings MASCARA? You know, one that doesn’t disappoint, wears perfectly all day and night, and opens doors for you (boyfriends/husbands…hint hint). I’ve been searching for the perfect mascara since I was 12 years old. Between allergic reactions, ones that flake off and stick to my contacts, smear below the eyes when you smile…(all the horrors) I am confident I have a few great options for you to choose from that will not only open doors but stop traffic. Before I…

Milwaukee Magazine Featuring Knitwear by Next Door Boutique

Bless my bosses heart, but when I got the phone call that I’d be the model for our photo spread in Milwaukee Magazine’s November issue, I nearly had a stroke. Secretly, I REALLY have always wanted to be in a magazine…so while I was having an attack about the nervousness I was also thrilled. What was this photo shoot all about? Different boutiques from the Milwaukee area would come together and showcase the latest upcoming trends. Renotta (my lovely boss) from Next Door picked knitwear with fur trim accents. Although I admit I’m partial…she stole the show. Like she always…

The Passing of a Legend

Photo reblogged from Jonathan Mak 6:30am: an angelic harp strums me awake. Snooze. 7:00am: an angelic harp finally gets me out of bed. 7:30am: as I frown down at my daily “healthy” oatmeal, I tap my way on the iPad to the New York Times, or better yet, just read all it’s headlines on the Twitter app. 8:00 I turn on my Macbook, click my iPhone awake, and browse through selections on Apple tv, or throw on an easy listening playlist that’s zoned to area’s of my house. When I walk upstairs, Apple’s airport express turns the music “off” downstairs, and…

The New Kid on the Block

Since I was a young little lass, I’ve always been the odd kid out. The one that was “looked at” funny when I sat down at the end of the table for lunch. The loner in gym class that partnered up with the nerdy (but kind of cute) guy for archery. I was weird. This led to a little bit of self consciousness which only added to my awkwardness. As I got older, I needed a LOT of dental work done. I’m talking head-gear on the OUTSIDE, drools sometimes kind of dental work. If I could even manage to muster…

Recycled Runway Fashion Show

This past May one of my good friends Mason told me about this group he joined as a board member, called Redline. What exactly is Redline? Their official description is as follows: “Redine is an urban laboratory that seeks to nourish the individual practice of contemporary art and to stimulate the creative potential of the local community.” Cool. Mason took a big breath (as I was cutting his hair) and told me Redline holds an annual fashion show every year, and they are in need of help. They need someone to find models for a contest “Recycled Runway”. The event…

The Recession Devil Wears Stilettos

Yesterday I was getting ready for work and I was putting together a really phenomenal outfit (I’m not bragging, but it was seriously great). I opened up my ridiculously huge shoe collection and realized my outfit would be PERFECT if I only had a pair of shoe’s I did not already own: royal blue suede pumps with an almond toe. I made a mad dash to my favorite shoe store, frantically walked in and asked the sales girl: “I NEED a pair of blue suede pumps that are not (holds hands about a foot apart) THIS high. You know, I…

Trend- Magnetic Nail Polish

What will they come up with next? First it was OPI’s crackle nail polish, and JUST in case you were looking for a different kind of thing they’ve come out with “magnetic nail polish”. The polishes have a pearly finish, but once your nail technician holds a magnet over, BAM! Instant design. You pick out the magnet with your desired pattern, and once held over the nail it attracts metal flecks in the polish to the surface to create the desired design. There’s no texture to the nail polish once it’s dry, so you can still achieve a glossy look.…

They call it “Rainbow Hair”

I follow some kids blogs in London, and recently, I’ve seen an interesting fad come through and they’re simply calling it “Rainbow Hair”. At first I discarded the idea, however right now what is the big hair trend? FEATHERS IN OUR HAIR. Seriously it’s so popular that fly fishermen can’t get feathers for their bait (kind of funny, sorry!). Rainbow hair isn’t such a bizarre trend anymore once in perspective, and then I found this GORGEOUS picture of Lauren Conrad’s rainbow tipped hair. C’mon guys…it’s pretty! I like the idea of doing it in peacock colors, deep green, blue and…

Clothing- It’s All About the Texture

This fall, texture is going to be the dominant force! You’ll see fur, feathers, braiding, curls, wood, lots of knitwear (knitwear will be HUGE) over sized cowl necks, crochet pieces, mile long scarves, and mile high eyelashes. What’s beautiful about this texture? The shock value of it being paired with it’s opposite: shiny patent leather boots, metallic nails, nude glossy lips, and polished bright bangles stacked up the arm. Textured bangles at Next Door starting at $18 Clothing will be layered with lace, wrinkled cotton, smooth white t’s etc… I loved my co-worker’s (Amanda Frank) look when she came in…
