5 Chilled Drinks You Have to Try This Summer

Cool off – and perk up – with these local buzzy iced beverages.

1. Nitro Thai

STONE CREEK COFFEE

The creamy, foamy effervescence of Nitro Jet Black cold brew is tempered with milk and a house-made Thai syrup, creating a juicy, aromatic, cardamom-laced pick-me-up.

2. Laos Iced Coffee

THUM (CROSSROADS COLLECTIVE, 2238 N. FARWELL AVE.)

Thick and rich, Laos iced coffee is a drinkable dessert. The coffee is strained and poured over ice, then mixed with sweetened, condensed milk and Ovaltine to create this creamy, sweet, slightly malty drink.

3. Bee Sting

ANODYNE COFFEE ROASTING CO.

Blending full-bodied espresso with whisper-sweet agave syrup, vanilla and milk gives the Bee Sting a gentle, refreshing bite.

4. Sweet Matcha Latte

ROAST COFFEE CO. (2132 E. LOCUST ST.)

Bright, mildly vegetal Rishi matcha green tea takes a smooth turn with milk and rich, creamy Ghirardelli white chocolate in this brilliant tea latte.

5. Iced Cold Brew Oat-Chata

COLECTIVO

This energizing sipper pairs the flavors in a classic horchata (a Mexican soaked-rice drink) with stiff cold brew coffee, sweet oat milk, vanilla syrup, cinnamon and ice.

Know Your Cold Coffee

So what’s the difference between iced coffee, cold brew and nitro cold brew? Iced is typically just brewed coffee poured over ice cubes, while cold brew, also usually served over ice, is made from a coffee concentrate (diluted with water), making it stronger and richer. Nitro cold brew comes out of a special tap, infusing it with tiny nitrogen bubbles for a soft, foamy texture like a Guinness Draught. Which is best is entirely up to you.
