Shades of Gray
This newly remodeled lakefront home mixes modern form with family-friendly function.

Luxurious, dark and sleek, yet inviting, warm and playful – the results of a seemingly incongruent recipe that reaped ultra-chic results. The log-flanked fireplace (designed by Wade Weissmann Architecture) also contains built-ins for television components and sits flush with the floor to make it more approachable, says lead design architect Eric Slavin. The velvet sofas, says interior designer Debbie Recht, were treated with Tefl on, so the mess of daily life won’t necessitate a costly interruption. The rich, slate-brown wood floor was intended to match wood textures throughout the house, and it’s custom-stained with a color dubbed “black Sabbath.” Naturally.
