About Event
Cinephile:
This project began taking shape during an Art Marathon in the Summer of 2012. During the 30 days of art launched by the Cream City Illustrators of Milwaukee, Schafer started to further explore a format of photography diptychs and triptychs. The resulting series of still images is reminiscent of the frames of a black & white filmstrip. The sequences offer a more complex narrative than a single image while leaving more to the imagination than the constant stream of video we encounter in modern life. Inspired by a lifelong interest in the careful design of classic films, each work intends to convey the atmosphere of a few moments in time. These are the makings of memories- snapshots meant to mimic how the mind’s eye remembers a slice of time, more so than to strictly document reality.
