Coming Home
Its name inspired by the Italian word for "living room," Salotto Zarletti is "from-scratch" happy.

Lazy Nights
The mantra at Bay View’s Lazy Susan is to slow down, disconnect from the outside world and share a meal with friends. Sounds like the prescription for summer.

Peanuts, Cracker Jack and a side of pork parfait
I went where no dining critic should go, devoured everything I could find, and narrowly escaped the palace of cheap calories called Miller Park.

Chefrigerator: Zach Espinosa
Bivalves and branzino are among the fresh catches on Zach Espinosa’s menu at Harbor House. But they’re not in the fridge he shares with his wife, Katie, the GM at fellow Bartolotta restaurant Bacchus. Nope, not a fin to be found.

In the name of all things classic Italian comes Little DeMarinis, an homage to a beloved Bay View pizzeria.

Brenda Poppy

Brenda Poppy is a senior at Marquette University with one semester left to go. She is studying journalism and sociology and intends to become a magazine journalist. Brenda is currently learning the trade as one of the summer editorial interns at Milwaukee Magazine. She previously worked as the assistant travel editor of 414 Magazine, where she honed her skills by writing about her travel adventures. When not ensconced in the magazine world, she can be found reading classic literature and exploring the city on roller blades.

Ann Christenson
Senior Editor
Milwaukee Magazine’s dining critic since 1997, Ann Christenson blogs about restaurants, chefs and just about anything edible and local in Dish on Dining. When she’s not thinking about her next meal, she’s … well, she’s always thinking about her next meal.

Simone Smith

Simone Smith is a rising senior at Marquette University majoring in journalism with a minor in history. Simone has worked as a reporter for the Marquette Journal, the Warrior and will be a news reporter for the award-winning Marquette Tribune beginning in the fall. Simone loves long form journalism and plans to enter the magazine world. She is very happy to have begun that journey at Milwaukee Magazine as an editorial intern. In her spare time, Simone researches graduate schools.

Sarah Elms

Sarah Elms just finished up her junior year at Marquette University where she is pursuing a major in journalism and a minor in sociology. She has worked at The Marquette Tribune, Marquette’s student newspaper and is excited to serve as the arts and entertainment editor come fall. Sarah is currently learning about the magazine world (and loving it) as an editorial intern at Milwaukee Magazine where she writes, edits and fact-checks copy. Sarah loves the city life of Milwaukee and is always up for trying something new, so she is thrilled to be blogging (daily!) about this year’s Downtown Dining Week. When she is not writing, she is exploring Milwaukee, gardening or feeding her music addiction.
