Ervtoberfest Doesn't Mess Around
This beer festival gets you beer and a buffet.

Erv’s Mug (130 W. Ryan Rd.) isn’t messing around with its Ervtoberfest on from 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7. For just $45 ($35 in advance), you can sample more than 30 beers from around 25 different breweries. Plenty of pumpkin beers and Oktoberfests will there for the tasting, as well as the awesome Sparkly Eyes IIPA (see below) by Black Husking Brewing.

The cover charge doesn’t just pay for beer. There’s also an unlimited buffet loaded with deliciousness like roast pork, German potato salad, and rouladen. And there’s live music by Ron Plevak and Grey Skies. Call 414-762-5010 for more information about this fine event.

Barley Pop of the Week

Sparkly Eyes, oh my. This big and bold imperial IPA from mad scientist Tim Eichinger at Black Husky Brewery is fantastic. The amber brew gets its bitterness from spruce tips and hops but also has a big malt presence to balance it out (unlike the similar Sproose Joose which unapologetically punches you in the face with spruce and bitterness). In my humble opinion, Sparkly Eyes is one of the top three or four beers being made in Wisconsin.

Quick Taps

Apparently Trooper, the beer collaboration between England’s Robinsons Brewery and Iron Maiden (that’s right, the band) is selling like crazy. Bruce Dickinson, Iron Maiden’s lead singer, played a big role in the brewing process. Look for it in Wisconsin in the next week or so. According to beerpulse.com, we’re getting some.

Rumpus Room and Made in Milwaukee are teaming up to create a new beer club. The aptly named ILB (I Love Beer) Club meets for the first time at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at Rumpus Room (1030 N. Water St.). The cost each month is $20. Rumpus Room knows beer, and I’m guessing this will be a monthly event worth attending.
