This weekend is the last chance to get to Oktoberfest at Heidelberg Park (700 W. Lexington Blvd.). Indulgence is the theme with a menu that includes spit-roasted suckling pig and chicken, sausage. The beer list includes plenty of Hofbrau brews and enough Oktoberfest varieties to keep you busy. Celebrate Milwaukee’s German heritage with a few hundred other revelers this weekend. Oktoberfest runs from 5 to 11 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27 and from 3 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, Sept. 28. Buy tickets online. Prost!
It Might Be Time for a Road Trip

Barley Pop of the Week
I’ll get into some fall beers next week. But I wanted to officially end summer with one of my favorite double IPAs. I put Central Waters Illumination up near the top of the list of the best beers made in Wisconsin. Illumination has a nice mix of malt and a citrus and pine bitterness. The bitter bite is noticeable, but not painful. It’s simply delicious.
Last week, a friend sent me the link to a peculiar Chicago White Sox promotion. Apparently I wasn’t the only one who thought that “Craft Beer Night sponsored by MillerCoors” was a little oxymoronic. The promo disappeared from the site, but according to BeerPulse.com, it didn’t go unnoticed.
The tasty Bell’s The Oracle IIPA showed up on a few store shelves last week (Ray’s Wine & Spirits had an early morning Oracle event on Sept. 14). I’m guessing the rarity is no longer anywhere to be found.
