Do I hear the pitter-patter of Alterra feet? Also: heirloom tomatoes and a chocolate-beer kiss

Halibut with pomodoro sauce/Heirloom Tomato Dinner.

Gone to Seed
Have you ever seen a single stripe tomato! Pretty, pretty! It’s an heirloom variety. You can see – better yet, eat – a multitude of pretty juicy fruit at Dream Dance Steak’s Heirloom Tomato Dinner, held Aug. 13. Seats are still available, but possibly not for long. Among the five courses: halibut with pomodoro sauce, crispy polenta and garlic chips; flat-iron steak with charred tomatoes, roasted Yukon Gold potato salad and blue cheese butter; and green tomato tarte tatin with tomato pepper granita. Monday, Aug. 13, 6 p.m. Cost: $75 per person. Call 414-847-7883 for reservations. (Potawatomi Bingo Casino, 1721 W. Canal St.)

Terra Firma
All that construction on South KK and Lincoln, near Café Centraal, LuLu and many other small businesses? It is fruition time. Alterra Bay View makes its official debut this Friday, Aug. 10. The café is also the headquarters of Alterra Baking Company, and the structure will doubtlessly attract java-drinking drivers, walkers and bikers (it has sheltered bike parking) of all stripes. Is there a patio? Why, yes, of course. Hours: Mon-Fri 6:30 a.m.-9 p.m.; Sat-Sun 7 a.m.-8 p.m.

Mighty Marriage
The July 2012 issue of Milwaukee Magazine pays homage to the liquid that few natives can live without. You didn’t know I meant beer? Now, consider cocoa beans. Perhaps you can't live without them either. Later this year, Waukesha-based Indulgence Chocolatiers will open a retail space in Shorewood’s (under construction) Ravenna development. Owner Julie Waterman is not new to beer-chocolate pairings. She’s done them before. Her next one is a full-fledged beer-chocolate dinner. Details haven’t been finalized, but chocolate and beer will be the main attractions of a multi-course dinner next month at Café Benelux. Once the menu is firmed up, you’ll read about it here. Date: Sept. 18, 7 p.m. (346 N. Broadway). Call 414-501-2500 to book a reservation.

On a sad note... Open less than five years, the Stallis restaurant Bunker's is no more (7420 W. Greenfield Ave.). That is unpleasant news for fans of the fish fry and tiki patio. No details on the reason for the closing.
