Grilled Chicken and Beer, Oh My
A beer and chicken dinner, beer taste test and some great beer reading.

Here’s a combination I can get excited about: Burnhearts Bar (2599 S. Logan Ave.) is teaming up with Oskar Blues and Honey Pie during the Beer Butt Chicken Fest on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 3 p.m. Grilled chicken is the featured entree, and for just $20 you get 1/4 chicken, two sides and a can of Oskar Blues beer (does it really matter which one?). Smother your chicken in Oskar Blues hot sauces and enjoy. As an added bonus, the event raises money for the Hunger Task Force. Way to go Burnhearts.

Milwaukee Magazine Beer Tasting

I spent Friday afternoon tasting a few randomly selected Wisconsin beers for an upcoming article. Sipping beers like Black Husky Sparkly Eyes and Central Waters Bourbon-Barrel Scotch Ale with a few local experts at Romans’ Pub is a great way to spend the day. Thanks to Mike, Marie, Brad, Kaleb, Grynder and Bill for joining us.

Barley Pop of the Week

I tried the Leinie’s Big Eddy Uber Oktoberfest last week. I’m not a huge fan of Oktoberfests, but I liked this one. It’s big, a little boozy and malty. I’ve liked every Big Eddy beer I’ve tried, and this is no different.

Quick Taps

The biggest party of the year starts on Thursday, Aug. 29. The 110th Anniversary Celebration of Harley-Davidson should mean plenty of beer consumed in Milwaukee over the weekend.

The Journal Sentinel’s Mary Louise Schumacher wrote an in-depth article about Mike Brenner and Brenner Brewing. I expect that big things will happen at Brenner Brewing when he’s up and running.
