Two Stellar Beer Dinners
Next week’s dinner plans are taken care of.

There’s no need to cook and heat up the house next Wednesday and Thursday. Two stellar beer dinners should take care of all kinds of sustenance.

Head to Tess (2499 N. Bartlett Ave.) on Wednesday, July 17 to hang out with Central Waters owner Anella Mollica and sample a five-course dinner paired with Central Waters beer. The fun starts at 6 p.m. and costs $51 per person. Call 414-964-8377 to make a reservation.

Save room for Thursday, July 18. That’s when Rumpus Room (1030 N. Water St.) hosts the Oskar Blues Farm to Table event. Serving stations give diners a chance to try dishes from Oskar Blues’ Hops & Heifers farm. Wash down the food with some of the brewery’s excellent beer (Dale’s Pale Ale pairs with almost everything...in my book). Call 414-292-0100 to make a reservation or for more information.

Barley Pop of the Week

I’m giving my home state of Nebraska some props this week. I made a trip home to the Great Plains over the long weekend, and my friend Bennett made sure I tried some local brews. One that I liked (both due to drinkability and a cool label) was Cropduster IPA from Kearney’s Thunderhead Brewing. The canned beer is fairly dry and has a nice hops presence that doesn’t punish the palate. (In full disclosure, I have to admit that the novelty of drinking a beer I can’t get was a selling point as well.)

Quick Taps

A trip to Nebraska means drinking plenty of Odell IPA. Really, really good stuff.

Wisconsin is ranked No. 5 in per capita beer consumption according to a study highlighted in a good article by the Journal Sentinel last week.
