Potawatomi Hotel & Casino (1721 W. Canal St.) announced this morning that Stone Creek Coffee has inked a deal to serve its coffee in the 381-room, 19-floor hotel, opening on August 18. The “exclusive partnership” will give Stone Creek primo visibility – the roaster’s coffee bar will be positioned next to the reception desk in the lobby. In addition to a full menu of coffee drinks and teas, the coffee bar will sell pastries and baked goods from the Stone Creek Kitchen. This is certainly good news for Stone Creek, which started with one location in Whitefish Bay back in 1993. On top of yesterday’s news that local roaster Anodyne is replacing Cedarburg Coffee Roasters in the Milwaukee Public Market (within steps of a Colectivo and a Starbucks), there’s clearly no end to the war of the local roasters. So why not read “Coffee Wars,” our oh-so-relevant September 2012 cover story?
In other Pot news, when the hotel opens on the 18th, the new 4,400-square-foot Locavore restaurant will start serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well. The menu will consist of “sustainable, organic, local” food -- full menu details to come. The hotel restaurant's coffee will come from none other than Stone Creek. The bar will have a similar focus, including craft cocktails, small-batch beers, and organic wines served by the glass and bottle.
