Craft Beer in Video Form
Set aside 15 minutes to watch a great beer documentary. Plus: great events.

Try to find an extra 15 minutes at some point in the week. If you do, spend it watching this great video, Craft Beer: A Hopumentary. Ed McMahon’s old Budweiser ad is worth watching by itself, but stick with it after that. It’s a great sample of (northern California) beer culture. Thanks to Beer Pulse for bringing it to my attention.

Doing Things Right in Door County

Door County is a fabulous place when there’s nothing going on. But when the Door County Beer Festival is happening on June 15 (noon to 4 p.m.) at Town Hall Park in Baileys Harbor, it’s about as good as it gets. The brewery list is solid, but that standout event is the beer swap. Bring one of your best cellared or rare beers, and you get to choose from what other beer aficionados bring. It’s a great way to get access to some rarities or brews that you can’t find in Wisconsin.

General admission tickets are just $15.

Barley Pop of the Week

I don’t drink many Allagash brews, and until last week it had been a long time since I had an Allagash White. Allagash makes one of the tastier wheat beers I’ve tried, and White is fruity, fairly light and very refreshing. My tastes have swung to the bigger and more bitter beers, but a solid wheat beer is never a bad choice in the summer.

Quick Taps

I just brewed a IIPA (I cheated; it was from a kit) that didn’t turn out half bad. I added Citra hops to the mix, which already included ample Centennial hops. It was significantly better than a disastrous lager that I made a couple of months ago.

Lakefront Brewery Fixed Gear earned a mention in the spring Beer Connoisseur Magazine. It garnered a more than respectable 88 rating (out of 100). Well done Lakefront.
