Prodigal Gastropub Nears Opening in Old Moct Space
New Fifth Ward restaurant could be open by Summerfest.

While Summerfest is about to descend on the Third Ward, the owners of Prodigal (ex-Moct, 240 E. Pittsburgh Ave.) are working to get the garage doors of this gastropub-to-be open by the end of this week. Work is still going on to complete the rustic-modern look. (That's reclaimed barn wood in the above photo.) Communal tables outfit the back "Bourbon Room." (Bourbon will have a prominent spot on the drink menu.) As for the food, the menu features a mix of terms you've probably seen before: bar snacks and small and large plates. There's fried chicken wing lollipops with sriracha; pork belly with braised red cabbage and mustard seed gastrique; beef burger topped with Nueske's bacon, Wisconsin cheddar and an over-easy egg; and Pacific halibut with roasted fingerlings, oven-dried grapes and fresh curry sauce ($5-$22). The kitchen head is Van Luu (most recently, executive sous chef of Bacchus). Expected summer hours: Daily 3 p.m.-bar time. Food served 5-11 p.m.
