No, “firkin” isn’t some sophomoric pseudo-expletive. It’s a vessel that holds delicious cask-conditioned beer that is less carbonated, has a smoother texture and more complex flavor. Firkin Fest pours more than 40 firkins from 50 craft brewers to 2,000 visitors at Cathedral Square Park. “The availability of so many cask beers in firkins puts this one over the top,” says Mike Romans, owner of Romans’ Pub. Sampling cask-conditioned beer is a treat. Being able to choose from a few dozen at once is almost too good to be true.
