Berghoff Brewery Relaunches
An old standby introduces some new German-inspired recipes.

I’ve got to tip my hat to Berghoff Brewing for undergoing a sizable retooling of its beer line this summer. Berghoff put some thought into some new German-inspired recipes being brewed in Stevens Point. The new brews include names like Solstice Wit and Reppin’ Red Ale. The most intriguing to me is the Germaniac Extra Pale Ale, a beer that is part of Berghoff’s Uberbier Series and includes honey, molasses and plenty of hops.

Honestly, I haven’t thought much of Berghoff lately (not in a bad way, I just literally haven’t thought of them) but at least by adding some brews that may appeal to craft beer drinkers Berghoff is creating conversation. I’ll definitely try some of their new stuff, and I guess that’s the point.

Burnheart’s (2599 S. Logan Ave.) is making it easy to taste the new stuff when it hosts a Berghoff Relaunch Party and Tap Takeover on June 21. The fun starts at 5 p.m., and Odd Duck will be there cooking brats for a solid drinking base.

Barley Pop of the Week

I’ve liked the beers I’ve tried from Hoppin’ Frog Brewery in Akron, Ohio. Their latest is no exception. Gangster Frog IPA has a nice dark orange hue and blends malt and citrus flavors together well. It’s got a prevalent, but not overpowering, bitter hop finish and is a good choice for those who really like taste their hops.

Quick Tap

Burnheart’s celebrated its sixth birthday last weekend. Happy birthday to one of the best beer bars in town.
