Budweiser has just introduced outstanding space-age design innovations with a new cutting-edge bow tie shaped can.
Coors Light has has announced that its crack team of amazing scientists has created the “world’s most refreshing can.”
As a beer drinker, I prefer what’s actually in the can, as opposed to odd gimmicks regarding the design of the can. But that’s just me.
Pairing Golf with Beer
The Sprecher Cheers for Charities golf outing is June 10. Register now to be a part of the action at The Golf Club at Camelot in Lomira. The $85 price includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, lunch, a Sprecher beer and cheese pairing, and dinner. Beer and golf pair together nicely.
Barley Pop of the Week
I spent part of the long weekend at a friend’s lake house in Twin Lakes on the Wisconsin-Illinois border. There were plenty of good brews to choose from, but one of the standouts was Firestone Walker Solace. The wheat beer was perfect for a summer day (unfortunately the temperature was in the 60s) with refreshing citrus hints and a crisp low-alcohol finish. It’s a nice beer to work into the summer rotation, unfortunately Firestone Walker isn’t sold in Wisconsin. Let’s hope that changes.
There’s a great beer and wine store just over the Illinois border from Twin Lakes. That’s where I stumbled across Firestone Walker Parabola Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout. It was a nice surprise to be able to pick up a bottle.
A Sprecher’s Restaurant and Pub is opening in Bayshore in a few months. It will be the fourth location of the brew pub. The three others are in Madison, Lake Geneva and Wisconsin Dells.
The summer beer festival season picks up steam this week. Are you ready for it?
Wednesday May 29: Learn about New Belgium Brewery (2305 N. Prospect Ave.) and try some cheese pairings at the Brewery of the Month Club at Whole Foods from 6-7 p.m. Cost is just $5 and registration is done by calling 414-223-1500.
Friday, May 31 to Sunday, June 2: I mentioned it last week, but consider a trip to Kohler for the Kohler Festival of Beer.
Friday, May 31: Try summer beers like Potosi Steamboat Shandy, Abita Strawberry Lager and Lost Coast Tangerine Wheat from 4-7 p.m. at Discount Liquor Waukesha (919 N. Barstow Ave.)
Saturday, June 1: Taste Wisconsin beers at Three Cellars (7133 S. 76th St.) from 1-4 p.m.
Saturday, June 1: If you’re into rarities, the World of Beer Fest is a must. There appears to be a few VIB (Very Interesting Beers) tickets left that provide access to hard-to-find brews, but it’s a good idea to get one as soon as you can. The festival takes place from 1-5 p.m. at the Schwabenhof Pavilion (N56 W14750 Silver Spring Dr.), and tickets can be purchased online.
