The weekend of June 1 is a doozy for beer lovers so plan wisely.
From Friday, May 31 to Sunday, June 2 is the Kohler Festival of Beer. It’s a weekend full of beer dinners, tastings and beer seminars.
The fact that the World of Beer Festival is also happening on June 1 makes it difficult to decide on plans. The stellar beer fest at the Schwabenhof Pavilion (14750 W. Silver Spring Drive) has a pretty amazing lineup of beer and a manageable crowd of beer lovers.
Name a Beer for the Brewers
The Brewers apparently had Leinenkugel’s brew up an ale that will only be available at Miller Park beginning on May 27. Fans get the pleasure of naming the beer. The three choices are Brew Crew Brew, Bernie’s Barrelman Ale and Brewers All-Star Ale. You have to vote by Tuesday or you can’t complain if the name isn’t Bernie’s Barrelman Ale (clearly the best option). Next up for the Brewers: improving the pitching.
Barley Pop of the Week
Three Floyds Evil Power is an interesting imperial pilsner with one of the most intricate labels the mad scientists at Three Floyds have ever come up with. The beer itself is slightly malty and fairly crisp, with a bitter hop bite (of course) at the end. I thought the taste was unique and enjoyable. If you find one on a shelf out there, buy one to give it a try.
A colleague sent me some information about the movie Drinking Buddies, which centers around two people that work at a craft brewery. You have to wait until later this summer to watch and decide if it deserves mention alongside Strange Brew as one of the best cinematic tributes to beer of all time.
Sixpoint Apollo is back for another summer. One of my favorite summer beers.
You heard it here first: New Glarus has a strawberry rhubarb brew in the works that should be available by the middle of summer. I'll have more info next week.
