Lt. Brian Murphy, who was the first responder at the Sikh temple shooting in Oak Creek August 2012 announced his retirement today. Murphy submitted a letter to Oak Creek Police Chief John Edwards this morning, according to WISN. His retirement is effective June 12.
Murphy underwent a risky surgery at Froedtert to essentially rebuild his vocal chords and voice box. This procedure, and his recovery, was documented in our May health column “Giving Voice.”
Murphy told WISN he wasn't sure what his plans for retirement were but said he might like to teach.
