Milwaukee Ranks Low on "Most Fashionable" List
Local fashionistas hang heads in shame.
In a list titled the "Most & Least Fashionable Cities in America," compiled by Bundle and reported by Business Insider, Milwaukee earned a measly 0.26 on the "fashion conscious index" that ranked cities by their number of "fashion-conscious households." A "fashion-counscious" household earned the moniker by having four or more transactions at a high-end designer retail store in the last 30 months.

Milwaukee ranked 43rd out of 50 cities. Upsetting the usual suspects, Los Angeles and New York City, they named Irvine, CA, the most fashionable city, while Buffalo, NY, ranked last.

We are outraged.

Being fashionable is about following trends and being stylish, not just buying merchandise from high-end stores. There are so many fashionable boutiques here in Milwaukee that were most likely not included in this survey, but carry high-end lines. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/fashionable However, I do think Milwaukee is behind on style and trends. Check out pictures of friends on Facebook in LA and NYC and you'll see people wearing the newest trends. This is more likely due to our geography and distribution of merchandise. Our stores and boutiques don't get product as soon as stores closer to major distributors of merchandise. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10100165144461450&set=at.10100165143548280.2304374.47903217.26700711&type=1&theater

So, yeah, this chart is confusing fashion with spending money, right? I mean it's saying that the cities that are the "most fashionable" are the ones that have simply made the most high-end purchases! Hello, you can be fashionable without spending gobs of money!

The metric is broken. Being fashionable doesn't necessarily require high-end purchases. Perhaps Milwaukeeans are simply better bargain-hunters than those in New York or LA?
