The Wheel & Sprocket Bike Expo is a sure sign of spring every year and it’s only getting bigger and better. There will be more than 2,000 bikes on sale at the Wisconsin Expo Center at State Fair Park (640 S. 84th St.) that you can ride right out the door.
The event runs April 4-6 and will feature new and used bikes of all styles starting at $199 from Trek, FELT, Surly, Salsa, Electra and more. New bikes (2014 models) start at $299. Expo hours are: Friday 12-9 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Sunday 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is free and parking is $5, but if you bring a bicycle-related item to donate to Dream Bikes, you can earn a get a $5 parking voucher.
Over three days, the expo attracts 15,000 people. “Get there early!” advises Amelia Kegal, events coordinator at Wheel & Sprocket. “And be sure to take advantage of all the great information even if you aren’t shopping for a bike.”
New additions this year include:
· A Seminar Program with topics ranging from how to change a flat tire to the laws of the road in Wisconsin.
· A Trade-In, Trade-Up program that offers a gift card for the trade-in value of your bike (as appraised by the Bicycle Blue Book.)
· The Trek One Project Trailer allows you to build a custom bike.
Kegal also recommends checking out the fantastic line-up of exhibitors like UPAF Ride for the Arts and the Wisconsin Bike Fed, just to name a few of the 50 rides, tours, clubs and other cycling organizations. And of course, there will be sweet discounts.
