Beer Week Marches On
Some great tastings to hit up during the thick of Milwaukee Beer Week

Beer Week hits its stride this week with more events than any one person could possibly attend. Check last week’s blog for some goings on that you shouldn’t miss and keep an eye on the Beer Week site to find others that appeal to your beer drinking senses.

Barley Pop of the Week

One of my favorite IIPAs is out in stores (but likely only for a few more weeks). The New Glarus Thumbprint IIPA is absolutely delicious. It’s got strong but not overwhelming hop bitterness with a tasty citrus bite. It truly belongs among the upper echelon of IIPAs. Every now and then I forget that New Glarus only distributes in Wisconsin. We’re pretty darn lucky.

Events Brewing (A Tasting Menu)

There are too many events to mention, but I’ve stumbled across a few tastings around town. Again, this is only a sample (ahem).

Wednesday, April 17: Try Summit’s new organic Unchained IPA at Discount Liquor Milwaukee (5031 W. Oklahoma Ave.) from 4 to 6 p.m.

Thursday, April 18: New Belgium brings a full sample menu, including Rampant IIPA, to Discount Liquor Milwaukee from 4 to 6 p.m.

Thursday, April 18: Try free samples of Oskar Blues and Kentucky Bourbon Ale at Discount Liquor Waukesha (919 N. Barstow Ave.) from 3 to 6 p.m.

Thursday, April 18: Taste samples from Hinterland Brewing from 6 to 8 p.m. at Three Cellars (7133 S. 76th St.).

Thursday, April 18: Lagunitas brings samples to Downer Wine & Spirits (2638 N. Downer Ave.) from 5 to 7 p.m.

Friday, April 19: Goose Island brings its Belgian ales to Discount Liquor Waukesha from 4 to 7 p.m.

Friday, April 19: Join Sprecher brewmaster Craig Burge for a tasting from 6 to 8 p.m. at Three Cellars.

Friday, April 19: Try samples from Founders from 4 to 7 p.m. at G. Groppi Food Market (1441 E. Russell Ave.).

Friday, April 19: Ray’s Wine & Spirits (8930 W. North Ave.) is sampling New Belgium Lips of Faith series beers from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Saturday, April 20: End beer week with samples of Oskar Blues, Kentucky Bourbon Ale, and a slew of Goose Island beers from noon to 3 p.m.

Saturday, April 20: “Southern beers” are the free sample from 1 to 4 p.m. at Three Cellars.
