Solemn News is Good News for Wisconsin
A Chicago-area brewery announces plans to distribute to Milwaukee and Madison.

Last week, Solemn Oath Brewery announced plans to distribute in Wisconsin. And there was much rejoicing. I’ve been decidedly impressed with the few samples I’ve had from the relatively new brewery in Naperville, on the southwest outskirts of Chicago’s ’burbs. Look for Snaggletooth Bandana, a tasty American IPA, or Butterfly Flashmob, an excellent Belgian IPA, when the beers arrive at a local tap near you in the spring. Early distribution plans appear to be limited, but it’s certainly a start and a chance to try brews from an up and coming brewery.

Best of Milwaukee Beer Dinner Returns

Grab tickets now for the Best of Milwaukee Beer Dinner at Hinterland (222 E. Erie St.) on Tuesday, March 25. It’s not to be missed. The chefs involved are Justin Aprahamian from Sanford, Odd Duck’s Daniel Jacobs, Paul Zerkel and Lisa Kirkpatrick of Goodkind, Hinterland’s Dan Van Rite and Matt Kerley of Blue Jacket. The beer list includes treats like Three Floyds Zombie Dust. Cocktails start at 6 p.m. and dinner is at 7 p.m. The price of $95 may seem a little steep, but trust me, it’s a bargain.

Barley Pop of the Week

With the winter we’ve been having, a brew by Alaskan Brewing Company seems like a logical choice for mention. Hopothermia IIPA is an excellent addition to the Alaskan lineup. A fair amount of malt sweetness balances out the citrusy hop bitterness nicely. Alaskan is a solid brewery, and Hopothermia is another example of this fact.

Quick Taps

A bar in Portland tapped a barrel of the extremely rare Pliney the Younger, and in order to make it last longer they listed it on the menu board as Miller High Life. Hilarious, and great for those who figured it out.

Sprecher Brewery and Milwaukee Pizza Company, not a bad combination. Four new pizza flavors are now available after a tour or frozen in the Sprecher gift shop (701 W. Glendale Ave.). The most intriguing is a beer brat pizza that includes a cheese sauce made with Sprecher Special Amber.
