I was fortunate enough to attend a fundraising event at the new Lagunitas Brewery in Chicago two weeks ago. I don’t have any mind-blowing revelations to share about the place other to say it’s absolutely massive. There are 300,000 square feet of space in the new digs, which should allow Lagunitas to churn out plenty of its delicious beer. The place is firing up the brew kettles now, but there’s no taproom quite yet. Once it opens I recommend making the trip to the west side of Chicago.
Barley Pop of the Week
A friend gave me a bottle of pseudoSue APA last week. I’ve been wanting to try the brew from Iowa’s Toppling Goliath Brewery for a while and was glad I finally got the chance. There’s a reason that Beer Advocate gives it a rating of 100. A nice citrus flavor and a mild hops bite combine to create a beer that earns a rating of 100 on Beer Advocate. The next time I’m in Decorah, Iowa I’ll be sure to stop at Toppling Goliath taproom.

Star Trek fans can now drink like Klingons with Warnog, a brew created by Tin Man Brewing.
Craft beer guru Tom “Grynder” Ciula made a visit to the soft opening of Biloba Brewing (18720 Pleasant St.) and gave Brookfield’s newest microbrewery a solid review. I trust Grynder’s opinion and look forward to going there soon.
Baseball returns to Miller Park on Monday. Happy Opening Day, and here’s hoping the Brew Crew has a big year.

Thursday, April 3: Welcome Dogfish Head to town with a tap takeover at Romans’ Pub (3475 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.) starting at 6 p.m. Mike plans to tap a 2010 Worldwide Stout a 90 Minute IPA and a few other gems.
Friday, April 4: Lakefront Brewery honcho Jim Klisch heads to Uber Tap Room (1048 N. Third St.) to pair four beers with four gourmet cheeses. Cost is just $14.
Saturday, April 5: Sample beers from Michigan at Three Cellars (7133 S. 76th St.) from 1 to 4 p.m.
Saturday, April 5: Hang out with homebrewers at the Pabst Brewery. The Milwaukee Beer Society is brewing beer in the courtyard of Best Place (901 W. Juneau Ave.) from noon to 7 p.m.
