Palomino to Close for Remodel and New Menu Launch
The plans to spruce up this Bay View bar.

Changing Scene
A little news from the Palomino Bar people. Next month (April 7), the 11-year-old Bay View joint will close for a remodel expected to last four to six weeks. The menu will undergo some work, as well, courtesy of Adam Lucks – who, with his sister Val, is partners with Palomino owners Scott Johnson and Leslie Montemurro in Comet and Honeypie cafes. The Luckses are now partners in Palomino as well, and Lucks' menu retooling will keep the emphasis on Southern-style comfort food. "From scratch" is the mantra at Honeypie, and the plan is to carry that over to Palomino, whose kitchen will get a wood-burning smoker and grill for the purpose of smoking bacon, brisket and duck legs. The beloved tater tots will now be made in-house, as will the biscuits and sourdough bread. Besides appetizers and bar snacks, the new roster will list eight to 10 sandwiches and a "changing" entree menu. The hot wings, burgers and po' boys from the previous menu will remain, plus plates for the vegetarian and vegan crowd. Brunch will include things like cheesy grits, sourdough waffles and buttermilk biscuits and gravy. (2491 S. Superior St., 414-747-1007)
