A Weekday at Bernie’s Tap Room
Keep this Waukesha newbie on your radar.
I made a stop at Bernie’s Tap Room (351 W. Main St., Waukesha) last week. I’m glad I did. Bernie’s doesn’t have a massive amount of taps, but the 24 it does have are pretty solid options. Three options (how appropriate) from Three Floyds, Deviant Dale’s, Founders Dirty Bastard, Bell’s Hell Hath No Fury, and a slew of Wisconsin brews offer plenty to choose from. A can list includes Sixpoint 3Beans and Oskar Blues Ten Fidy. Bernie’s has a smattering of picnic tables and small dining tables and a couple of TVs behind the bar. The spot has also hosted a few beer solid beer dinners. Keep Bernie's on the radar.

Whole Hog

I haven’t seen too many beer dinners featuring Point Brewing. The Whole Hog Beer Dinner at Tess (2499 N. Bartlett) on Thursday, March 28 pairs Point’s limited release Whole Hog series with delicious menu items conjured up by Tess. Point head brewer John Zappa will be there to guide diners throughout the five-course meal. The beer list features the Whole Hog Raspberry Saison, Pumpkin Ale, Barrel Aged Barleywine, Six Hop IPA and Russian Imperial Stout. The tasting starts at 6:30 p.m. and costs $54. Call 414-964-8377 to make a reservation.

Barley Pop of the Week

Bell’s Oberon shows up this week. Oberon is a sure sign that warm weather is near (although maybe it’s a little early this year). The wheat ale has a refreshing citrus and fruit flavor with a hint of hops. It’s easy to drink and a perfect grilling companion – assuming winter decides to leave us at some point.

Quick Taps

Burnhearts (2599 S. Logan Ave.) added eight taps last week and now have 24. It was already a great beer bar, but now it’s even better.

Because Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ got me through the Marquette-Butler game, it’s now my beer of choice for every remaining Marquette game.
