Lake Park Bistro is uncharacteristically quiet this week. The French joint at Lake Park Pavilion has been closed for a refresh, as they're calling it. Workers have been busy installing a new zinc bar. You'll be able to inspect this new bit of handiwork when LPB reopens for dinner this Friday evening (March 15). Also, check out the new look of the menu, whose structure is now easier to navigate. Preps have changed -- from the roasted entrecote (grass-fed Strauss beef) with Bordelaise sauce, mushrooms and bone marrow to the lyonnaise salad, of frisee, bacon lardons, sauteed chicken livers and a poached egg. The earliest moment to observe the reflesh is 5:30 p.m. on the dot. (3133 E. Newberry Blvd., 414-962-6300)
Every Thursday, the Downtown bar-restaurant Distil offers a prix-fixe menu inspired by such disparate places as Philadelphia and Helsinki, Finland. Like making a mini exit from Milwaukee. Speaking of exits, Distil’s executive chef Erik Hansen has given his notice. No word yet on his destination. Lo and behold, the executive chef position is posted on Craigslist. “Established and nationally renowned artisan-style restaurant hiring a creative, hardworking chef to lead a small team,” it reads. General manager Clint Sterwald – whose cocktail-mixing resume includes stints at the Iron Horse Hotel and Hi Hat Lounge – has also split. (722 N. Milwaukee St., 414-220-9411)
