Next Question, Please
Sean Duffy has most definitely never had an ultrasound.
Democrats are pushing a recording of a Feb. 21 town hall meeting in Spooner,Wis., during which Wisconsin Congressman Paul Duffy, a Republican, deflected a question about mandating trans-vaginal ultrasounds by saying "I haven't had one."
A woman in the audience asked Duffy to comment on legislation pending in the Wisconsin State Legislature, the Women's Right to Know Her Unborn Child Act, that would require women to receive an ultrasound before undergoing an abortion. (Early in the pregnancy, a device that inserts into the vagina would likely be needed to produce an image of the baby.)
"I don't know what a trans-vaginal ultrasound is," Duffy says.
"You don't?" the woman responds.
"I haven't had one."
"It's been in the news on the East Coast ... [inaudible due to laughter]"
Conservative legislators in other states have introduced similar bills. Wisconsin's wouldn't require the woman to look at the ultrasound image, only to receive the results from medical personnel.
After the laughter died down, Duffy reiterated that he's pro-life and again declined to comment on the bill, saying he hadn't reviewed it.
