Breakfast at Tiffany's.
I work with Harper's Bazaar as a beauty product tester and a small (but I hope significant) voice of opinion on fashion. Lately they've been doing a lot of top 10 lists that are so fun to read. So with their tactics in mind, I decided to ask local Milwaukee men what they think every woman should have. I told them to keep it fashion and beauty-related, but... guys are guys.
These men (some single, some not) come from various backgrounds; from hair stylists, to makeup artists, photographers, musicians, designers, construction and more.
1. Red Lipstick
This was the most popular response. Why? Makeup artist Michael Weiss (Lash Boutique) says, "It makes your complexion appear more clear and evokes sexual thoughts." (I died a little.)
What shades should you try? Michael suggests Bloodroses from Kevyn Aucoin, Burnt Red from Bobbie Brown, and Viva Glam from MAC.
2. Dry Shampoo
Wait, do guys even know what that is? Maybe not, but they like it when your hair looks good and you don't take hours in the bathroom to get your hair there. A New York-based editorial hair stylist Nicholas Shatarah suggests the Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray as his must-have dry shampoo have for every gal. He explains that it smells good without being overpowering, and it also can be used as a texturizing spray when locks feel limp and baby soft. Bonus? It extends the life of your blow-out, cutting down on primping time. Agami Salon in Milwaukee's Third Ward has the product line.
3. Well-fitting Jeans
We all know a great pair can hide a multitude of sins. Where should you start? Next Door Boutique in Brookfield has nearly a thousand pairs to choose from. Bonus: You don't have to look through them all yourself, the staff is trained to help you find the perfect pair, and they hem and tuck on site.
4. A Pencil skirt
The straight lines of a pencil skirt accentuate curves, while offering a professional.
5. A Copy of Breakfast at Tiffany's
6. A Great Purse (Really.)
This one actually shocked me, as most of us can agree we ladies get a hard time for how much our nice purses cost. Although men may pretend not to care, they notice. James Lohmiller, wardrobe stylist and co-partner of HollenWolf, suggests this Alexander Wang Rocco duffel bag.
7. A Fantastic Smile
8. Signature Perfume
While the responses for which perfume varied, having a scent that is "you" is a must. Want something new? I recommend Shalimar by Guerlain, Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel, or White Patchouli by Tom Ford.
9. Chic Sunglasses
These gold Ray-Bans were a favorite.
10. Motivation and a backbone.
While many of their picks were classics, fashion changes on a dime and these will never go out of style.
