Merchandise Mart in downtown Chicago is one of the biggest Midwestern markets for retailers to buy next season's merchandise to fill their stores. With floors upon floors of merchandise, and hundreds of vendors, there is a constant buzz of buying and displaying the latest fashion trends.
A few times a year, I am lucky enough to step into what seems like the most magical (and trendy) closet. As you can tell from the image below, Merchandise Mart is filled with racks and racks of the season's latest styles, and among them are loads of jeans.

Speaking of those jeans, I'm starting to feel like skinny jeans needs to loosen up a bit; the tightness is starting to feel a bit stuffy. I think designers are beginning to feel the same, although they aren't saying bye-bye to the skinny yet. The cigarette leg jean is growing in popularity with it's looser fit and higher rise such as the J Brand pair below.

Along with the high-ish rise, the contoured waist band will definitely make life easier, and prevent a peep show when you bend over. (We've all been there.) Washes are becoming darker and cleaner, with less distressing. It's a classic look. On the opposite end of the color scale, lighter washes and looser boyfriend fits are starting to inch their way in as warmer weather awaits us.
Colored denim raced through the fashion scene, and now printed denim is dawning. The printed trend is also showing up on shorts in pretty paisleys, florals and geometric designs. The bold print below by 7 For All Mankind has become a best seller.

Be sure to scour local boutiques for jeans in the latest colors and styles. Some even tailor them for reasonable prices, ensuring you get the perfect fit for the sometimes-high price tag.
