Head to Sugar Maple for a Cause
The craft beer community takes care of its own

On Saturday, Feb. 2 from 2-6 p.m., Sugar Maple (441 E. Lincoln Ave.) is hosting a fundraiser worth attending. The event for Brad Crayne – a long time beer sales guy, beer advocate and Certified Cicerone who is battling cancer – is done in suitable craft beer style. All of the proceeds from Crayne-a-palooza, which will include a silent auction and raffle items that include some rare brews, go help the Crayne family during their difficult time. And more than few special beers will hit the tap lines. Among the standouts are the incredible rare Founders Bolt Cutter and Central Waters 15th Anniversary. You don’t have to be a friend of Crayne to attend, the craft beer community is good about supporting its own.

Learn the Beer Basics
Three Cellars (7133 S. 76th St.) is doing its part to educate people about beer. On Tuesday, Feb. 5 Three Cellars is hosting “Working the Core” a beer “training” session designed to inform attendees about beer styles, the differences in regional beers, and a whole lot more. A night studying beer? Sure beats studying physics or math. The cost is $15. Call 414-235-3336 to register or for more information.

Uber Launch
The Uber Tap Room (1048 N. Old World Third St.) has its official launch party on Saturday, Feb. 2. The spot, with one of the best selections of Wisconsin beers in town starts the festivities with a cheese carving contest at 6 p.m., and then taps a free barrel at 7 p.m. Sample each Lakefront Brewery tap for just $3.

Barley Pop of the Week
Green Flash Brewing recently made its way into Wisconsin, and we should all be glad they did. The folks from San Diego do good work. Le Freak Ale is a nice introduction to our new friends from Green Flash. It’s a Belgian IPA, that combines the flavors of both pretty well. A citrusy hop flavor mixes well with a dry fruity sweetness. But be warned, this bad boy has a 9.2 percent ABV. Give Green Flash a try, if you start with Le Freak, I’m guessing you’ll be happy you did.

Events Brewing

Friday, Feb. 1: Pair samples of Sheboygan’s 3 Sheeps Brewing with four cheeses at the Uber Tap Room at 7 p.m. Cost is just $10. Register here.

Friday, Feb. 1: Sample Shiner Bock and their new FM966 Farmhouse Ale from 4-7 p.m. at Discount Liquor Milwaukee (5031 W. Oklahoma Ave.)
