New Years Eve(nts)
Milwaukee acts and touring performers play us out of 2013.

Thursday, Dec. 26: Foreign Fields at Linneman’s Riverwest Inn, 9 p.m. ($8)

Nashville (by way of Wisconsin) electro-folk duo Foreign Fields comes home for the holidays and gives Milwaukee the present of its presence, as well as one of the few shows happening in Christmas’ imposing shadow. While less than 2 years old, the group is quickly building buzz on music blogs. (1001 E. Locust St., Linnemans.com)

Friday, Dec. 27: Hugh Bob and the Hustle with Blessed Feathers, and THE 4ONTHEFLOOR at Turner Hall, 8 p.m. ($10)

Milwaukee’s Hugh Bob and the Hustle manages to co-opt small town points of pride from frontman Hugh Masterson’s apparent rural upbringing, and transfer them to song, in a palatable brand of Americana that’s quickly made this Wildbirds side project a darling in town, and beyond. Blessed Feathers – a small-ish town act that’s gaining its fair share of national swell – and The 4ONTHEFLOOR open. (1032 N. 4th St., PabstTheater.org

Also: BoDeans at Potawatomi Casino’s Northern Lights Theater, 9 p.m. (SOLD OUT) – (1721 W. Canal St., PaysBig.com)

And: Johnny Ill Band with Space Raft and Ramma Lamma at Cactus Club, 10 p.m. – (2496 S. Wentworth Ave., CactusClubMilwaukee.com)

Saturday, Dec. 28: A Tribute To The Music Of Big Star at Linneman’s Riverwest Inn, 9 p.m. ($5)

Rock legends Big Star get the tribute treatment from an impressive cast of local talent that includes Midnight Reruns, Sat. Nite Duets, The Midwestern Charm, Quinn Scharber, Terry Hackbarth, Ian Olvera and The Fox Valley Friendlies. (1001 E. Locust St., Linnemans.com

Also: Local H with The Traveling Suitcase at Shank Hall, 8 p.m. ($15) –(1434 N. Farwell Ave., ShankHall.com)

Tuesday, Dec. 31: Trampled By Turtles with PHOX at Riverside Theater, 7 p.m. ($40)

With all due respect to veteran Minnesota-based string band Trampled By Turtles, our interest in this show rests with the opener. Madison (by way of Baraboo)-based PHOX will finish up a banner year that saw the young, affable indie rock sextuplet playing Summerfest and SXSW, touring in support of acts like Blitzen Trapper and playing more than a month of dates in Europe – including an opening slot for The Lumineers at the iTunes Music Festival in England. Since 2014 looks to be even bigger for the beautiful and brassy-voiced Monica Martin and her PHOX cohorts, you best catch them before the clock strikes midnight. Tickets might be harder to come by in coming years. (116 W. Wisconsin Ave., PabstTheater.org

Also: Fable & The World Flat with Midwest Death Rattle at Lulu, 10 p.m. ($5) – (2261 S. Howell Ave., LuLuBayView.com

And: The Delphines with Sat. Nite Duets and Con Trails at Linneman’s Riverwest Inn, 9 p.m. ($5 or two non-perishable food items for Riverwest Food Pantry) – (1001 E. Locust St., Linnemans.com
