Joe Pug at Linneman's
College dropout Joe Pug with local fave Trapper Schoepp

Tuesday, Nov. 5: Joe Pug with Matt The Electrician and Trapper Schoepp @ Linneman's, 8 p.m.

Former carpenter and college dropout Joe Pug forged his own path to prominence by mailing copies of his "Nation of Heat EP" for free to whoever asked for it. And a lot of people asked for it. Pug's songs have a rare, earthy power, swirling with the wisdom of a man who has travelled and experienced and held actual employment as a carpenter in the digital age. That was back in 2010, and the EP has since been downloaded over 30,000 times. Pug is now touring behind his second full-length, The Great Despiser.

Also: Los Lonely Boys with Jonny Lang @ Northern Lights Theater at Potawatomi Bingo Casino

Wednesday, Nov. 6: Northless with Cleric and Guzzlemug @ Quarters, 9 p.m.

A lot of bands talk about "taking a break" or "laying low for a while." Northless talks about "hibernating," which makes a lot of sense for a band that sounds like it might spend half the year sleeping in a cave. This will be the band's last show before said hibernation, so if you haven't seen them since they released the devastating World Keeps Sinking, now's your chance. And, it's free.

Also: Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue @Turner Hall, 7 p.m.

And: Myles Coyne and the Rusty Nickel Band with The Sleepwalkers and The Cavewives @ Cactus Club, 9 p.m.

Thursday, Nov. 7: Paul Cebar Tomorrow Sound with Vic & Gab @ Turner Hall, 6:30 p.m.***

Also: Jake Shimabukuro @ The Pabst, 7 p.m.

Friday, Nov. 8: Faux Fir with Fatty Acids and Fable & The World Flat @ Linneman's, 9 p.m.

Synth-rockers Faux Fir will release new album Fashionable Life at Linneman's Friday, with The Fatty Acids and Fable & the World Flat rounding out a bill that just rolls off the tongue. Fashionable Life was pushed back from its original September release date due to a vinyl-pressing issue, but if the cassette teaser Failure Prose is good to its word, fans should be in for a treat with the full-length.

Also: Logic & Raze with DJ Bizzon @ Cactus Club, 10 p.m.

And: Blind Boys of Alabama @ The Pabst, 7 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 9: "Kneel To Neil" @ Linneman's, 8 p.m.

The eighth annual Neil Young tribute at Linneman's will feature familiar local names covering Young favorites. Among the masqueraders are Thriftones, Midnight Reruns, Bella Bruto, Chris DeMay & The Gentleman Farmers, and more. Proceeds benefit WMSE and The Bridge School.

Also: Nick Sanborn presents Lend Me Your Voice @ Alverno College Pitman Theater, 8 p.m.

And: Certain Stars with The Cut-Outs and Labware @ Frank's Power Plant, 10 p.m.

Sunday, Nov. 10: Juiceboxxx with Extreme Animals @ Cocoon Room, 7 p.m.

Juiceboxxx has been gravitating closer and closer to the "rock" side of rap-rock recently, and newest track "Front Seat," which has him rapping over Springsteen's "Adam Raised A Cain," is no exception. It's a cut from the Juicer's new, free EP, Front Seat of the Tacoma. Catch him in the middle of a two-week tour for an all-ages hometown show at Cocoon Room.

Also: Nobunny with Rio Turbo, Sugar Stems and Nello @ The Miramar, 7 p.m.

***This show has been canceled.
