In honor of Movember, the annual event where men grow mustaches in November to raise awareness for men’s health, The Refinery Photo Studio will be on hand at two local barbershops this weekend to take free photos in the style of vintage mug shots.
On Saturday, Nov. 30 from 3-5 p.m., Dapper Classic Barbershop (1209 E. Brady St.), will offer free mustache styling and hair styling for the photographs. And on Sunday, Dec. 1 from 11-3 p.m., Stag Barbershop (3064 S. Delaware) will have free mustache shave offs (post-photo), a bloody Mary bar and the first 50 clients will receive a free razor from Harry’s.
You don’t have to sport a ‘stache to have your photo taken. And women are also welcome to join in the photography fun. Dressing in your jailhouse finest is encouraged. Music and appetizers will also be available at both barber shops.
The Refinery specializes in contemporary male portraiture and is run by award-winning photographer Jessica Kaminski, who calls the mustache-centric portait sessions a celebration of masculinity.
“Growing up with three brothers taught me that a man wants to look good in a photograph, just like a woman," Kaminski says. "He may need a little guidance when it comes to making that happen, or at least a fun reason to be photographed, which we can provide.”
Purchase prints of your mug shots and a portion of the proceeds from print sales will go to prostate cancer and other men’s health charities.
