When he came out of nowhere with a self-titled EP last
month, Max Holiday (working as Young Holidays) revealed himself as a master of
condensation. Like a shaken root beer, his smartly built pop foams with hooks
and an endearing, off-the-cuff energy. He’s bottled another hit in new single
“Teenager,” a fuzzy nugget of blown-out grooves and perky melodies that revels
in the whirlwind freedom of the weekend. As always, the hooks come fast and
furious, and the playfully disjointed mid-section is a clever attempt to corral
the scramble towards the finish line. “Teenager” may be fleeting, but like any
great weekend, it’s one you'll have trouble forgetting.
